My name is Mary (Sugg) Bassett and I am a life-long resident of Fayetteville, Arkansas. I have always had a great passion for children and have been an early childhood professional for many years. I have a Master's degree in Child Development from the Human Environmental Sciences department at the University of Arkansas. Most recently I taught Child Development at the university and worked with lab students at the Jean Tyson Child Development Study Center. I am an advanced level trainer with the state professional development registry as well as an Independent Certified Instructor and Early Childhood Educator for the Baby Signs® Program.
My Master's thesis explored how symbolic gesture influences infant and toddler emotional expression. I did extensive research on baby sign language, social-emotional development, language and vocabulary acquisition, temperament, and caregiver beliefs. This study is what launched me into the incredible world of baby signs! My mission is to bring the amazing baby sign language movement to Arkansas as it has been in many other parts of the country and the world. Let me introduce you to the Baby Signs® Program and I have no doubt you will want to join me in my quest.
